We Egyptians

If there is ever an example of ‘people power’, the power of normal everyday civilians to change their country, then this is it. For those of you not familiar, this is Kobry Kasr el Nil (Bridge of the Nile Palace). It is strategically relevant as it is the largest and most prominent route from Zamalek to Midan el Tahrir. This footage is from the 25th of January. As police try to set up a blockade of the bridge, they encounter a force they could not have imagined. Thousands upon thousands of Egyptians push them back, despite the tear gas, smoke grenades, water blasts, a recklessly circling police vehicle, and all-round manhandling. By the end of the video the road crossing the bridge is invisible beneath the feet of the marching civilians. It makes you proud to be Egyptian.
