Anderson Cooper Attacked by Pro-Government Thugs

CNN has aired the footage of Anderson Cooper being attacked along with his camera crew. In the background you can hear civilians’ presumably anti-Mubarak saying ‘La, la, la’, which means ‘No, no, no’. You can also hear them shouting ‘nobody hit them’ as they are ushered out of the area of danger and towards the Hilton Ramsis. A water bottle is thrown but it is endearing that as the soldiers did nothing, civilians personally escorted Cooper and his crew to ensure that they got to safety.

The fact that journalists are being attacked is absolutely shocking, and and is the greatest proof that freedom of expression and freedom of the press is not respected in Egypt under the current regime. It is also a signal that Mubarak doesn’t want the violence in the square reported outside of Egypt, due to the international outcry it will no doubt garner.
